The phenomenon of children being diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, which is classified as an autism spectrum disorder, is relatively recent.

But what about middle-aged men and women who grew up never knowing of the condition that made them feel different to everyone else?

Michael Madore is a visual artist who was diagnosed only a decade ago and says his unconventional work and creativity helped him to cope both before and after being diagnosed with Asperger's.
